(in response to Kent's comments that there might be another less 'linear'
way to think of breadcrumbs than the standard horizontal layout...)

In most of the applications i work on there is a high demand for horizontal
screen real-estate (eg. big data tables with many columns) Scrolling right
seems much more challenging (for the users I have worked with) than up/down
scrolling.

I am interested to hear what other breadcrumb solutions you would offer
given these conditions....
