The 3rd International UBI Summer School 2012 will be held in Oulu, Finland,
on May 28 - June 2, 2012. The summer school provides young researchers with
an opportunity to gain hands on experience and insight on selected topics on
the multidisciplinary fields of ubiquitous computing and urban informatics
under the tutelage of distinguished experts. The summer school is targeted
primarily to doctoral students, but M.Sc. students and postdocs are also
welcome to attend. The 2012 UBI Summer School builds on the legacy of the
two previous highly successful UBI summer schools held in Oulu in 2010 and
2011.

The 2012 UBI Summer School comprises of four parallel workshops:

A: Information Visulisation for UbiComp Data by Professor Aaron Quigley,
University of St. Andrews, Scotland;

B: Supporting Community Through Interactive Public Displays by Dr. Keith
Cheverst, Lancaster University, UK;

C: Civic Technology: Mobility, Democracy and Civic Engagement by Professor
Eric Gordon, Emerson College, USA;

D: Urban Sensoria: Human-Centered Computing in Practice by Dr. Alejandro
(Alex) Jaimes, Yahoo! Research.

Up to 16 students are enrolled to each workshop in two phases:

Phase #1: Open international call with application deadline on Feb 29, 2012.
Applicants will be notified by Mar 12, 2012. Accepted students have to
confirm their enrollment via registration by Mar 30, 2012, including the
payment of the registration fee.

Phase #2: Any seats potentially remaining after phase #1 will be handed out
on first come, first served basis using the applications received after Feb
29, 2012. Accepted students have to confirm their enrollment via
registration, including the payment of the registration fee.

Prospective students should note the following guidelines:

* A student must submit the online application form available at
<http://www.ubioulu.fi/en/UBI-summer-school-2012-application-form>
http://www.ubioulu.fi/en/UBI-summer-school-2012-application-form to be
considered for enrollment.

* A student is enrolled to one particular workshop that she/he is expected
to complete to claim the credits (5.0 cp). The enrollment of a student to a
workshop is conditional to the approval by the instructor of the workshop.

* A student may apply for more than one workshop. If the student is not
enrolled to her/his first choice workshop, then she/he is considered for
her/his second choice workshop, etc. A student should only apply to those
workshops that she/he is really willing to attend.

* All students are responsible for their own travel and accommodation
arrangements and expenses. Thus, a student should make sure that she/he has
necessary funds to attend the summer school before applying. We provide all
students with an opportunity to purchase low-cost accommodation (100 EUR for
8 nights) upon registration.

Best regards,

-Timppa
