CALL FOR PAPERS

Journal of Ambient Intelligence and Smart Environments

Special Issue - Computer Vision for Ambient Intelligence

Apologies for cross-posting
 ==============================================================================

DESCRIPTION:

The vision of ambient intelligence revolves around understanding human
behavior in its many social settings, and to provide humans with
socially aware cognitive systems, enabling a shift from usability to
sociability, or to ambient culture. We envision seamlessly integrated
plug and play devices that can be used to endow a given environment with
an awareness of the physical, functional, temporal and social
organization of its internal domestic dynamics, as well as the
personalities and social relationships of its inhabitants, providing a
vast array of new services for ordinary people.

While many novel sensory modalities are offering the designers of
ambient intelligence applications new possibilities of realizing these
goals, computer vision remains the most important modality in providing
rich information in an unobtrusive manner. We solicit contributions to a
thematic issue of the Journal of Ambient Intelligence and Smart
Environments on "Computer Vision for Ambient Intelligence". The aim of
this issue is to introduce novel computer vision approaches to the
challenges of understanding human behavior in ambient environments.
Provided that application area is compatible with the aims of the
journal and the thematic issue, the topics include (but are not
restricted to):

-Scene and event modeling, representation, and reconstruction
-Human activity analysis
-Social signal processing
-Facial expression and gesture recognition
-Face and body tracking
-Distributed video surveillance
-Behavioral biometrics
-New feature selection and extraction methods
-Vision for multimodal fusion
-Mathematical description and integration of contextual information
-Spatio-temporal dynamics of actions
-Recognition of signs and emblematic gestures
-Visual action grammars
-Benchmarking studies on novel databases
-Vision for applications of elderly care, smart cars, and smart buildings

SUBMISSIONS:
Submissions must represent original material. Papers are accepted for
review with the understanding that the same work has been neither
submitted to, nor published in, another journal or conference. All
manuscripts will undergo a rigorous review process by at least three
experts. Submission of comprehensive survey papers is encouraged. These
should have added value for the field, and introduce new perspectives,
taxonomies, etc., or critically discuss existing work to provide a
broader vision.

IMPORTANT DATES:
December 1, 2010: Submission of full paper
January 15, 2011: First round of reviews
March 11, 2011: Submission of revised papers
April 15, 2011: Second round of reviews
May 1, 2011: Notification of acceptance
July 2011: Publication
