The University of Vienna is inviting applications for three positions of

Research Assistants/PhD  Positions
at the Research Group Multimedia Information Systems

*Reference Number: 4198
*Number of Positions: 3

The Research Group Multimedia Systems (headed by Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Klas)
at the Faculty of Computer Science is looking for highly motivated
research assistants, PhD candidates. We are offering an excellent
working environment in a young, creative, highly motivated, and
international team, manifold opportunities for personal development,
the possibility to take responsibility in research projects at an early
stage, the opportunity for research stays abroad, excellent industrial
contacts, and an intensive support in the course of a dissertation.

*Extent of Employment: 4 years, 30 hours/week.
Occupation group in accordance with collective bargaining agreement:
§48 VwGr. B1 Grundstufe (praedoc). On top of this relevant chargeable work
experience determines the assessment to a particular salary grade.

*Areas of work:
Duties include: Participation in research projects; project management,
if qualified; dissertation; publication of research results; contributing
to research proposals. Research topics are: Semantics in Multimedia,
Multimedia Content Management, Mobile and Multimedia Systems, Audio
and Video Technologies, Digital Libraries. Teaching courses as agreed
upon in the collective contract of the University. Participation in 
administration.

*Your Profile:
Qualifications required: Master in Computer Science, or Media Technologies
or Business Informatics (with a strong focus on Computer Science) with
excellent marks. Excellent German and English language skills. Strong
motivation to work in a team environment. Strong motivation to publish
at top refereed conferences/journals. Perseverance, focus, integrity,
ability to make things done, leadership in organization and partnership/
communication with other project teams.

Additional skills: Teaching and working with students. Excellent knowledge
in the fields of multimedia systems, digital media technologies, in
particular classification and identification of video and audio content,
semantic analysis of music, video encoding and processing techniques, Java,
C, C++, mobile computing, Web-technologies, databases, formal methods in 
CS.
Proven interest in scientific work and in scientific publishing. Expertise
in various application areas of Computer Science.
