PerCom'22 Industry Track
This year, PerCom continues the dedicated Industry Track. Accepted papers
will be published in the PerCom Workshops and other Affiliated Events
proceedings. This track will be an opportunity for people associated with
industry and academia to present their novel ideas while attracting funding
and/or further expanding collaborations. These papers will be presented
with focus on research that has direct Industry impact and potential for
industry uptake. For this track, important criteria for papers to be
submitted to the Industry Track is clear industrial association, either in
the form of extensive evaluation of research results in industrial use
cases or active participation of industry representatives as co-authors.
Having this condition in mind, contributions related to ongoing or
finished, but previously unpublished research papers are welcomed.
Submissions from a broad spectrum of research fields with common interest
in pervasive computing and communications are expected. There will be a
Best Industry Track Paper Award to acknowledge and encourage excellence in

PerCom'22 Work in Progress
The Work in Progress (WiP) session provides an opportunity to present and
discuss new challenges and visions, showcase early research results, and
explore novel research directions. Papers (4 pages in the IEEE proceedings
format) are expected to report on early or ongoing research on any aspect
of pervasive computing and communications. The authors of accepted papers
will present their work during the main conference and must register for
the conference. (Paper submission: December 12, 2021)

PerCom'21 Demos
The PerCom Demo session provides venue for the latest breakthroughs in
pervasive computing to be presented live (according to the COVID-19 local
prevention polices) to the research community. Interested authors are
invited to submit a working Demo ranging from examples of working
prototypes, novel applications, groundbreaking ideas, and live experiments
related to PerCom conference. In particular, we encourage demos from
industrial researchers who are leading the way in pushing pervasive
technology into the hands of the public. A "Best Demo Award" will be
presented based on research value, originality, and presentation. (Paper

PerCom'22 PhD Forum
The PerCom PhD Forum provides an excellent opportunity for Ph.D. students
to present their dissertation research, including work in progress, to the
wider pervasive computing and communication community. This meeting offers
an opportunity to share experiences with other Ph.D. students and meet with
accomplished international researchers and obtain feedback from them.

PerCom'22 Artifacts
In 2022, PerCom will once again provide the opportunity for authors of
accepted papers to participate in an Artifact Evaluation (AE) process. This
opportunity is open to authors of accepted papers in any of the PerCom
tracks, including the main research track of the conference, the demo and
WiP tracks, all workshops, and the PhD Forum. Authors who choose to
participate will provide supplementary materials as artifacts (tools,
applications, data sets, etc.) that will be reviewed solely for functional
completeness (e.g., does provided code compile and run as expected; do
experimental results match expected results, etc.). Participating authors
will be allotted two additional pages in a separate Artifacts section of
the proceedings to describe the nature and contents of the artifact package.

IoT-PROD 2022 -- First International Workshop on Internet of Things
Pervasive Real-World Deployments

During the last decade the Information Technology ecosystem has been
significantly revolutionized by the advent of the Internet of Things (IoT)
and its quick and pervasive evolution. We will have billions of
heterogeneous interconnected devices denoted as “Smart Objects” able to
generate and consume a huge amount of data and enabling new forms of
cyber-physical interaction between people and things in an increasing
number of challenging application scenarios. IoT-PROD’22 aims to provide a
forum that brings together authors from the research and industrial
communities, standardization bodies, and institutional entities to meet and
exchange ideas on recent research, challenges and future directions for IoT
real-world deployments in multiple application scenarios. The technical
discussion will be focused on the presentation of interoperable, pervasive,
secure and scalable solutions able to take advantages of the key enabling
technologies for IoT, especially Edge/Fog Computing, Hybrid Cloud
architectures, Artificial Intelligence, Human–machine interaction together
with Pervasive and Mobile computing approaches.

TELMED 2022 -- First Workshop on Telemedicine and e-Health Evolution in the
New Era of Social Distancing

The TELMED Workshop will cover the design, realisation and assessment of
innovative computing, networking, and communication technologies as
enablers to improve and sustain the access to various services all
supporting remote health care. These technologies can answer these new
challenges, stimulating the introduction of new products, systems, devices,
and tools for ensuring a continuous, efficient, and effective health
monitoring and medical assistance. The objective is to support patients at
their home as well as caregivers and sanitary operators during their
everyday management of patients, and citizens accessing primary care.
Accordingly, the perspective of medical care is a change of the paradigm
“patient-to-the-hospital” into the new paradigm
“hospital/doctor-near-to-the-patient”, bringing doctor and care close to
the patient, also locally providing tools for the advanced diagnostics.
The TELMED workshop invites and calls for participation both
representatives of academia and industry across the world interested in
discussing on the last evolution of Telemedicine and e-Health to answer to
new societal needs in the era of social distancing ensuring an easy and
safe access to primary care, improving the quality of life of the citizens.

PerVehicle 2022 -- Fourth International Workshop on Pervasive Computing for
Vehicular Systems

4th International Workshop on Pervasive Computing for Vehicular Systems
(PerVehicle 2022) aims to provide researchers and practitioners a forum for
presenting and discussing research challenges on pervasive and mobile
computing technologies for intelligent vehicular systems. Vehicular systems
have become more significant for our society. For example, connected
vehicles will provide new network architectures and middleware to enable
new pervasive applications like intelligent platooning, cooperative
optimization of traffic flows, automated vehicles and intelligent
vehicle-pedestrian safety systems. In addition, drones and UAVs will bring
new concepts and ideas for smart mobility and society. Pervasive computing
technologies including wireless networking, mobile and distributed
computing, sensor systems, ambient intelligence, and smart devices, will
play more important roles in designing, managing and realizing intelligent,
smart vehicular systems. The main focus of this workshop is on such
pervasive and mobile computing for/by vehicular systems.

Activity Modeling and Recognition (CoMoReA). This workshop’s aim is to
advance the state of the art in context modeling and reasoning and discuss
fundamental issues in context processing and management. The goal is to
identify concepts, theories and methods applicable to context modeling and
context reasoning as well as system-oriented issues related to the design
and implementation of context-aware systems. Among the many context-aware
applications, this workshop particularly solicits submissions on novel
approaches for Human Activity Recognition (HAR) based on context
information derived from sensor data.

ARDUOUS 2022 -- Sixth International Workshop on Annotation of User Data for
Ubiquitous Systems

Data annotation plays a major role in the development of modern pervasive
systems which support users through situation-aware reasoning. It is
essential in both, designing and training such systems to recognise and
reason about the situation. Furthermore, data labelling and its quality are
important for validation and overall performance estimation of
context-aware applications. With pervasive systems relying increasingly on
large datasets for designing and testing models of users’ activities, data
labelling is becoming a major concern for the community. Additionally, it
becomes important to develop standards and normalisation methodologies for
transferability of annotated data across different applications.
This workshop focuses on experiences with existing tools, datasets and
annotation approaches in real-world use cases, including negative outcomes
and the reflection of possible resolutions of the related problems.
The main topics are: (1) The role and impact of annotations in designing
pervasive applications. (2) The process of labelling, and the requirements
to produce high quality annotations. (3) Tools, interfaces and automated
methods for annotating user data, especially weekly supervised and
unsupervised machine learning methods. (4) Methods for standardisation and
normalisation in annotation practices.
The goal of the workshop is to bring these topics to the attention of
researchers from interdisciplinary backgrounds.

ALPACA 2022 -- First Workshop on Adaptive, Learning Pervasive Computing
Applications

The Workshop on Adaptive, Learning PervAsive Applications (ALPACA) provides
a forum to foster interaction and collaboration between the research
communities of adaptive, learning and pervasive computing systems, raising
the awareness about related research efforts and synergies that can be
exploited to advance the state of the art.
Adaptive PerCom systems are inherently distributed and composed of possible
hundreds of instances that might act autonomously. New approaches are
required to achieve global goals while enabling local autonomicity.
Relevant work can be found in different areas including autonomic
computing, self-adaptive and self-organizing software and systems,
multi-agent systems, organic computing, as well as context- and
situation-aware systems. We especially welcome researchers working in those
research streams. This workshop covers all topics concerning adaptive
PerCom systems including fundamental science and theory, levels and
architectures, evaluation, verification and validation, simulator/
demonstrators, and application and case studies of adaptive, learning
PerCom systems.

PerFlow 2022 -- 2022 International Workshop on Pervasive Information Flow

Internet of Things (IoT) has been attracting attention due to its economic
impact and high expectations for drastically changing our societies.
Trillion-scale IoT devices including sensors and actuators are being
installed in various “things” such as machines, humans, vehicles,
buildings, and environments. At the same time, we are facing research
challenges on how to effectively, timely and integratedly handle these over
trillion flows (which we call Pervasive Flows) gushed from massive devices
or heterogeneous pervasive systems. Based on the success of our previous
workshops, IFoT 2016, PerFoT 2018 and 2019, and PerFlow 2020 and 2021, the
sixth edition, the 2022 International Workshop on Pervasive Information
Flow (PerFlow 2022) aims to present and discuss research challenges,
design/implementations of new architectures, and experiences on timely
processing/distribution of pervasive flows. In addition, interoperability,
integration and coordination among different applications, services and
devices should be discussed for real- world deployment of pervasive systems
handling pervasive flows.

BRAIN 2022 -- Third Workshop on Blockchain Theory and Applications

Blockchain technology has a great potential to radically change our
socio-economical systems by guaranteeing secure transactions between
untrusted entities, reducing their cost, and simplifying many processes.
Such technology is going to be exploited in many areas like IoT, social
networking, health care, electronic voting, and so on.  In particular,
blockchain provides an innovative solution to address challenges in
pervasive environments, e.g. distributed computing, smart devices, and
device-to-device coordination, in terms of decentralization, data privacy,
and network security, while pervasive environments offer elasticity and
scalability characteristics to improve the efficiency of blockchain
operations.
Even if many applications are already leveraging the disruptive potentials
of this technology, further research and development are required for
several challenging aspects like scalability, efficiency, privacy and
support of complex queries, both from a theoretical and practical point of
view.
This workshop aims to provide a venue for researchers from both academy and
industry to present and discuss important topics on blockchain technology.
The workshop’s goal is to present results on both theoretical and more
applicative open challenges, as well as to provide a venue to showcase the
current state of existing proposals.

WD2P2 2022 -- First International Workshop on Web 3.0 and Decentralised
Data Processing and Storage Platforms

The increased adoption of pervasive computing technologies such as the
Internet of Things (IoT) in "smart" environments has resulted in an
ever-increasing amount of data. The current data processing and storage
models of these data, where much of the controls over them reside with the
service providers, exacerbate the issues of privacy and data ownership.
The absence of data residency choice by the user leads to a lack of
transparency on the use of user’s data, diminishing the trust in the future
development of the digital economy and society at large. Open,
decentralised data storage and processing platforms, such as Personal Data
Stores (PDS), Decentralised File Storages (DFS) and blockchains, are
emerging as an alternative that alleviate the fundamental privacy issues by
empowering users to store and control their data in the location of their
choosing, establishing data sovereignty. This movement is helped by the
next phase of computing platforms referred to as Web 3.0 which is gaining
momentum through convergence of enabling technologies, including augmented
and virtual reality (AR/VR), 5G connectivity/geolocation, IoT and edge
computing.
In this workshop, the focus is on findings, advancements, and achievements
in the field of decentralised data storage and processing platforms as
privacy-enabling technology.

Cloud-Edge-Device Systems and Services

The rise in popularity of serverless/FaaS has led many researchers to
wonder whether this concept can be applied also outside of cloud computing.
*LESS (StarLESS) is a unique opportunity to challenge the current
serverless design and platforms, with issues specific to decentralized and
pervasive systems, applications, and services. The workshop will attract
serverless experts from networking, virtualization, and cloud computing.
Specific topics of interest of *LESS ‘22 include (but are not limited
to):serverless computing in edge, fog, and cloud architectures; serverless
computing for pervasive systems, applications, and services; protocols for
distributed serverless computing; serverless computing in emerging
communication patterns, e.g., 6G; Function-as-a-service (FaaS) for
pervasive applications; artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning
with/for serverless computing; performance evaluation of serverless
computing in pervasive scenarios; modelling, analysis, and simulation of
pervasive systems using serverless computing; prototypes and real-life
experiments involving serverless computing for pervasive systems;

WristSense 2022 -- Eighth Workshop on Sensing Systems and Applications
Using Wrist Worn Smart Devices

The main goal of this workshop is to bring together researchers and
practitioners to share innovative ideas, discuss challenges, and brainstorm
potential solutions to open research problems related to the domain of
wrist-worn smart devices. Using sensors, computation resources, and
communication interfaces available on smartwatches and smart bands, it is
possible to capture information about the device user, perform computation
to infer the user’s activities and their context, and communicate these to
a smartphone or the cloud. These wrist-worn smart devices represent a
perfect platform to conduct research on human activity and behavior. They
introduce opportunities for exploring new research problems, such as
efficient classification and computation on the wearable device, offloading
of computation from the user’s watch to the phone or the cloud, enhancement
of user experience, smart notification management, physical activity
sensing, behavior modeling, and data analysis.
In this workshop, we will focus on two key areas: (1) Wellness and Digital
Health using wrist worn devices. (2) Industrial and Factory Applications
using wrist-worn devices.

SPT-IoT 2022 -- 6th Workshop on Security, Privacy and Trust in the Internet
of Things

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a novel design paradigm, envisioned as a
network of billions or trillions of "Things" communicating with one
another. The heterogeneous nature of the IoT as well as the computational
constraints of many of the building blocks of the IoT make security,
privacy and trust an extremely challenging problem to solve on one hand,
while security, privacy and trust play a critical role for most, if not
all, applications of IoT in domains such as surveillance, healthcare,
security, transport, food safety, manufacturing, logistics and supply chain
management. The IEEE Percom workshop on Security, Privacy and Trust for IoT
aims to provide a forum that brings together researchers from academia as
well as practitioners from industry, standardization bodies, and government
to meet and exchange ideas on recent research and future directions for the
IoT with a specific focus on IoT security, privacy and trust. The technical
discussion will be focused on the communications and network security
aspects of IoT and the key enabling technologies for IoT, especially M2M
communications and networking, RFID technology and Near Field
Communications (NFC), the challenges to security, privacy and trust
presented and novel approaches to solving these challenges.

PerFail 2022 -- First International Workshop on Negative Results in
Pervasive Computing

Not all research leads to fruitful results, trying new ways or methods may
surpass the state of the art, but sometimes the hypothesis is not proven or
the improvement is insignificant. But failure to succeed is not failure to
progress. PerFail 2022 aims to create a platform for sharing insights,
experiences, and lessons learned when conducting research in the area of
pervasive computing, systems and networking. Works that shed light on
unconvincing results, underperforming experiments,
unconventional/controversial results and "hard-to-publish" works are
welcome, provided they share insights and lessons learnt from these
experiences. We also invite submissions from experienced researchers that
recounts post-mortem of experiments/research directions they have failed in
the past (e.g. in a story-based format). With this workshop, our aim is to
normalize the negative outcomes and inherent failures while conducting
research in pervasive computing, systems and networking, and provide a
complementary view to all the success stories in these fields.

EmotionAware 2022 -- Sixth International Workshop on Emotion Awareness for
Pervasive Computing Beyond Traditional Approaches

An important goal of pervasive computing is to seamlessly integrate devices
into the users’ everyday life, and explore various approaches to understand
the behavior of the users and their surrounding environment. Human emotions
are one of the most attractive sources of information for pervasive
computing. While there have been contributions targeting some of these
challenges, there are still unsolved problems. The proposed workshop in its
sixth year will explore the challenges of sensing, modeling, and detecting
emotions, using embedded sensors in smartphones, wearable devices, and
pervasive sensors (e.g. RF sensors). In this sixth edition, we will make an
emphasis on new sensor technologies and non-intrusive everyday devices.
We invite to this workshop unique contributions addressing these
challenges. Emotion Aware 2022 aims to facilitate collaboration among
research groups working on emotion recognition for pervasive computing.

HCCS 2022 -- Third Workshop on Human-Centered Computational Sensing

The third edition of the Human-Centered Computational Sensing (HCCS’22)
Workshop at PerCom 2022 aims to advance and promote research about how
unobtrusive observation of human beings’ cognitive, behavioral,
physiological, and contextual data is increasingly enabling new computing
experiences. The workshop will additionally stimulate dialog about the
implications of computational sensing for society. Traditionally, sensors
have been understood narrowly as physiological measurements often captured
with wearable devices. This workshop adopts a broader, human-focused view,
envisioning sensing as time-evolving measurable data directly linked to
individuals and, by extension, to their communities. With this
understanding, sensing involves human reactions and interactions observed
in spoken, written, or signed language, eye gaze, facial and bodily
expressions, social networks, geospatial patterns, and other such
human-generated data. Advances in multimodal human data acquisition and
fusion have the potential to significantly impact all areas of human life -
productivity, health and well-being, training and education, human-computer
interaction, accessibility, safety and security, as well as gaming, sports,
and entertainment. Authors are invited to submit technical or theoretical
papers for presentation at the workshop, describing original, previously
unpublished work presenting novel perspectives within the general scope of
the workshop.

PeRConAI 2022 -- First Workshop on Pervasive and Resource-Constrained
Artificial Intelligence

PeRConAI will focus on solutions suitable for advancing towards a truly
pervasive and liquid AI enabling edge devices, regardless of their
available resources, to accomplish both training and inference under full,
weak or no supervision.
Differently from the cloud context where AI systems can rely on known and
controllable high-performance compute infrastructures, the design of edge
AI systems must leverage the collaboration of several heterogeneous devices
working in a highly dynamic context both in terms of data and connectivity.
Although some advancements in the development of solutions suitable for
training and running pervasive AI, the real realization of a distributed AI
vision requires the following open questions to be answered: (1) How to
design, train, and optimize advanced machine learning (ML/DL) models in
pervasive contexts where edge devices have limited resources (i.e.,
computational power, storage, and energy)? How to implement and optimize
distributed ML/DL systems on small devices that can collaboratively exploit
local data while preserving privacy? (2) How to move from heavily
supervised edge ML/DL systems to weakly supervised or unsupervised systems
by also leveraging unlabeled data? (3) How to enable pervasive ML/DL
systems running on limited devices to adapt to possibly evolving contexts?

PerAwareCity & WSCC 2022 – Joint Workshop on Pervasive Smart Sustainable
Cities

Smart cities, together with sustainability and circular economy, form a
significant part of current research and are an ideal platform for testing
new technologies, concepts, and applications, while use-cases like the
digital twin have brought forth additional challenges and opportunities in
pervasive computing. In many cases, a multi-disciplinary approach is
required for implementing systems for smart circular cities, and such
aspects are at the core of this workshop. The workshop aims to bring
together researchers and practitioners working on systems and applications
in the Smart City domain and solicits papers addressing several topics,
including: a) Smart City systems and platforms, b) Smart Cities as systems
of systems, c) IoT, edge/fog, and cloud computing for smart and circular
cities, d) Experiences from real-world applications, experiments, and
