The explosive growth  of new media distribution channels in the Internet and the resulting new production workflows based on  computerized tools is forcing media industry to adapt new business models.
The Third Workshop on Automated Information Extraction in Media Production (AIEMPro10) aims at fostering the exchange of ideas and  practises between leading experts in industrial and academic research, academic stakeholders of prospective methods,and leading actors in the media industry.
The workshop aims to catalyse the migration towards new ways of producing, broadcasting, and presenting media content, through  the introduction of tools for automated multimedia analysis and understanding. At the same time,  the workshop will help academic researchers  better understand the real-life key requirements that  enable higher impact and  wider adoption of these methods.
Media production workflows are substantially influenced by new ways of acquiring elaborating, and publishing audiovisual material, as well as by bandwidth adaptive streaming through Internet portals. In this context, automatic information extraction techniques based on audiovisual content analysis are seen as an interesting and promising option to streamline these processes and lower the total cost of new productions, and as a way to help to disseminate existing archives. This line of development has been fully recognised by the European Broadcasting Union, Time Warner, and other major players in industry.  However, so far the potential of these methods is yet to be leveraged in every day use.
The workshop aims at attracting the attention of researchers and practitioners in the field of automatic information extraction based on audiovisual content analysis on the problems related with media production processes. In particular, the objective is to analyse the impact and performances of these tools in real-life applications, and on real-life material.
Authors are encouraged to submit papers on which they enlighten the features of existing or novel tools in the key aspects of future media production based on automated information extraction, including acquisition, editing, publishing, archiving and repurposing of audiovisual material. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- High- and low-Level  acoustic, visual, and multimodal indexing in media acquisition
- Automated repurposing of archived material on new media channels 
- Automated news production
- Computational Journalism 
- Efficient  navigation and retrieval of multimedia streams 
- Automatic speech recognition, keyword spotting, and search 
- Personality identification (e.g. face or speaker identification) 
- Collaborative systems for media production. broadcast, and presentation 
- Multimodal topic and concept detection, categorization, and genre detection
- Information Retrieval systems from Multimedia Archives
- Mechanism for the estimation of the of trust of news and opinion mining
- Ontologies and metadata formats for radio and TV programming
- HCI for efficient annotation and retrieval
- Automated  copyright  infringement detection and watermarking
- Content summarization (e.g., sports highlights) 
- Audiovisual genre and editorial format detection and characterisation 
- Automated cross-media linking  and integration 
- Content segmentation tools (e.g., shot and semantic scene segmentation) 
- Applications of MPEG-7 and MPEG-21 standard  
- Evaluation methods for TV and radio content analysis tools, including data sets and standard resources
We actively encourage the submission of articles from the speech, audio, and language processing domain

The organising committee will make available a considerable amount of
audiovisual material taken from some of the major European broadcasters
archives. Perspective authors may  test their technologies on this material,
in order to further prove the effectiveness of their research in a real
scenario. Contact the workshop organisers to get information about how to
get the material.
Test material for experimentation is available at the Online Media Asset
Management System "Mammie" provided by the organizers. Download is
conditioned to some terms and conditions for the use of the material. You
can find the full text on the register page of the Mammie system.

Paper Submission due: June 11th 2010
Notification of Acceptance due: July 2nd 2010
Camera Ready due: July 15th 2010
Workshop date: 29th October 2010.

Submission Guidelines:
The recommended length for papers is 6 pages, following the ACM Proceedings
format (full information available at the ACM Multimedia Submission Page
 http://www.acmmm10.org/authors/submission/full-and-short-papers/  ).
Simultaneous submission to another conference/workshop/journal is not
allowed, except as allowed by ACM Multimedia policies. 
Papers must be original and have not been published or under
consideration for publications elsewhere. Each paper will be reviewed by at
least three members of the programme committee recognised for their
competence in the field covered by the paper.
Final decision about inclusion in the workshop proceedings will be taken by
the PC members exclusively on the basis of the obtained reviews and levels
of recommendation.
Papers must be registered using the ACM Multimedia conference management
