About ICIN

Since 1989, the ICIN conferences have been bringing together leading Internet and
telecom experts from industry, academia and government from across the globe. ICIN
is a single-track conference that is both intimate and global. It focuses on
leading edge investigations into Internet technologies, from basic networking and
cloud services to novel architectures. ICIN uses a rigorous peer-review process
and has become an established industry forum for discussing emerging trends in
Information and Communications Technology (ICT). It offers an agora for one-on-one
discussions, and cross-fertilization between participants, and leading network
visionaries, with the goal of promoting dialogue and ideation about current and
future trends in networking research and development. ICIN conferences are well
known for the identification of research challenges and industry trends and their
discussions on the impact of cutting-edge technologies on future intelligent and
distributed networking, and related computing services. ICIN has an enviable track
record for identifying key technologies and services – and analyzing their impact
on business models – before they become widely recognized in the industry and
government communication sectors. The interdisciplinary approach and the cross-
fertilization of ideas are the main ingredients that made ICIN a recognized event
in the telecommunications, cloud networking and Internet communities.

ICIN 2024 will be held in Paris, France on March 11-14, 2024.

For the 2024 edition, ICIN will host an international forum where industry, aca-
demia, and standard development organizations will convene to discuss about the
emergence and developments of “Intelligent network service management across the
compute continuum”. The network and computer arena has recently expanded not only
in number and in type of players, but also in technologies, domains, terminals and
services. This expansion seeks for intelligent and efficient control, orchestra-
tion, and management platforms able to support all the challenging requirements
such as dynamicity, diversity, efficiency, sovereignty, sustainability, security,
reliability and openness in a timely manner, limited operator interventions. Solu-
tions such as AI-based or digital twin may contribute to the solution.

The increasing pervasiveness of data sources heightened by current massive IoT
deployments and by the evolution of highly distributed and heterogeneous computing
environments shaping the “edge-to-cloud” continuum, as well as the trends towards
highly disaggregated network services fostered by the microservice and serverless
models, are only some of the many drivers of an unprecedented level of challenges
in network service provisioning. They must be addressed by leveraging intelligence
at all levels, including network control and management, resource and service or-
chestration, dataplane computing & communication capabilities, assisted/augmented
user-network interaction, sustainable and environment-friendly deployment.

The conference will foster discussion about new ideas and approaches for AI/ML-
assisted service orchestration, as well as enabling technologies and mechanisms
to respond to emerging pervasive data-driven networking and processing, immersive
connectivity, security and sustainability. This vision will enable the conference
to promote approaches and techniques beyond the current state of the art, such as
advances of networks with data, control and management plane flexibility and pro-
grammability that foster reliability, optimality and efficiency for applications
and services to address future society and business needs.

Prospective authors are invited to submit contributions presenting novel technical
research, business studies in impact, or mechanisms and new technologies, as well
as broader position and visionary papers. Contributions discussing lessons learnt
and best practices, describing practical deployment and implementation experiences
as well as demonstrating innovative use-cases are also encouraged.
Authors of selected papers accepted f or publication at ICIN 2024 will be invited
to submit an extended version of their paper to IEEE Transactions on Network and
Service Management (TNSM).
