PVLDB Volume 17: Call for Contributions

***Overview***

PVLDB is a scholarly journal for short and timely research papers pursuing a strict quality assurance process. It is distinguished by a monthly submission process with rapid reviews. A paper will appear in PVLDB soon after acceptance, and possibly in advance of the VLDB conference. All papers accepted for Volume 16 by June 16, 2024 will form the Research Track of the VLDB 2024 conference, together with any rollover papers from Volume 16. Papers accepted to Volume 17 after June 15, 2024 will be rolled over to the VLDB 2025 conference.

***Scope of PVLDB***

The Proceedings of the VLDB (PVLDB) welcomes original research papers on a broad range of research topics related to all aspects of data management, where systems issues play a significant role, such as data management system technology and information management infrastructures, including their very large scale of experimentation, novel architectures, and demanding applications as well as their underpinning theory. The scope of a submission for PVLDB is also described by the subject areas given below. Moreover, the scope of PVLDB is restricted to scientific areas that are covered by the combined expertise on the submission's topic of the journal's editorial board. Finally, the contributions in the submission should build on work already published in data management outlets, e.g., PVLDB, VLDBJ, ACM SIGMOD, IEEE ICDE, EDBT, ACM TODS, IEEE TKDE, and go beyond a syntactic citation.

***Four Paper Categories***

There are four equally important categories of papers in the research track:
-Regular Research Papers
-Scalable Data Science Papers (SDS)
-Experiment, Analysis & Benchmark Papers (EA&B)
-Vision Papers
See Submission Guidelines for page limits for these categories.

***Topics of Interest***

***Submission Guidelines***

New for Volume 17

- Updated policy for conflicts of interest, with a stricter definition than in the past; see Conflict and Authorship
- Updated conflict declaration on CMT. Note that each author is now required to enter individual domain and PC conflicts on the submission site; see Conflict and Authorship
- Updated guidelines for submitting supplementary material for Transparency and Reproducibility

Detailed guidelines can be found at the following link: http://vldb.org/pvldb/volumes/17/submission/

***Submission Process and Deadlines***

The process will be carried out over 12 submission deadlines during the year preceding the VLDB conference.

Submission Deadlines: A rolling deadline occurs on the 1st of each month, 5:00 PM Pacific Time (Daylight Savings observed according to the US calendar). The first monthly submission deadline for PVLDB Volume 17 is April 1, 2023. The final deadline is March 1, 2024.

More details on deadlines can be found at the following link: http://vldb.org/pvldb/volumes/17/submission/

*** Conflict and Authorship***

To minimize biases in the evaluation process, we use CMT's conflict management system, through which authors should flag conflicts with members of the Editorial Board. X and Y have a conflict of interest if any of the following applies:

X and Y have worked in the same university or company in the past two years, or will be doing so in the next six months on account of an accepted job offer. Different campuses within the same university system do not count as the same university for this purpose - UC Berkeley does not have a conflict with UC Santa Barbara.

X has been a co-author of a paper with Y in the last 3 years, or of 4 (or more) papers in the last 10 years.

X has been a collaborator within the past two years, as evidenced in a joint publication (subsumed by the stricter rule on co-authorship above), joint research project, or co-organizing events (e.g., co-chairs of conferences), or are collaborating now (including co-authorship on papers not resulted in final publication yet).

X is the PhD thesis advisor of Y or vice versa, irrespective of how long ago this was.

X is a relative or close personal friend of Y.

It is the full responsibility of all authors of a paper to identify and declare all COIs with members of the Editorial Board (reviewers, Associate Editors, and Editors-in-Chief) prior to the submission deadline. Submissions with undeclared conflicts or spurious conflicts will be desk-rejected.
