Dear Friends,

University of Leicester is currently implementing a "Shaping for
Excellence" plan that aims to make at least 60 people redundant. As part
of this, they want to get rid of all 8 staff in pure maths and of all
(up to 10) staff in foundations of computer science whose past (!)
research is not deemed to be close enough to the new priority areas of
Artificial Intelligence, Data Mining, Computational Modelling and
"Digitalisation". We've just (this morning) started a petition to gather
support against this threat:

Save Research in Foundations of Computer Science in the School of
Informatics at the University of Leicester.

It would be great if you could sign the petition and forward the link to
your colleagues and others in your networks.

Thanks,

Thomas

P.S.: Maths have a separate petition, which you could also sign. Theirs
has already been running for about a week and gained lots of signatures
and international attention:

Dear Nishan, Make the hard choice: step back from your plans to destroy
pure mathematics at the University of Leicester.
