POSTDOC POSITION AT SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA

The School of Computer Science at the University of Sydney is hiring a Postdoctoral Research Associate on the topics of distributed computing and distributed systems for up to 2 years. The successful candidate will take part of the Concurrent Systems Research Group (CSRG) and will participate in the research activities of the group in the domain of distributed computing / systems or security, supervising research (Honours/PhD) students. There will be opportunities to teach courses related to these topics.

Salary package: $112K-118K per annum
Closing date: 20th February 2020 (Sydney time)

SELECTION CRITERIA

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to research excellence. She or he will participate in the supervision of research students, propose innovative solutions to problems related to distributed systems or security and will publish in top scientific venues of computer science.

The successful candidate will have:
- A PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics or Electrical Engineering
- Publications in top scientific venues
- Good oral and writing English communication skills

The Concurrent Systems Research Group (CSRG) focuses on distributed computing and systems ranging from the context of shared memory concurrent algorithms, to the context of security in networking. Some of the work conducted in the group consists of designing scalable algorithms for blockchain technologies that can be implemented and experimented at large scale, benchmarking concurrent algorithms and synchronization techniques to leverage multicore machines and identifying vulnerabilities in existing software to introduce new solutions. Some of the recent outcomes of this research led to the open source release of the Synchrobench benchmark suite, the recent disclosure of Attack of the Clones against Ethereum, and the commercialization of the Red Belly Blockchain that was deployed across 4 continents.
