The Ying Wu College of Computing (YWCC) at the New Jersey Institute of
Technology (NJIT) invites applications for a senior faculty member to serve
as the Director of the Institute for Cybersecurity. Candidates must have a
PhD in computer science or a related discipline with a demonstrated track
record of scholarly accomplishments commensurate with the appointment at
the rank of Associate Professor or above. Candidates with doctorates from
top worldwide institutions are especially welcome to apply.

The successful candidate will hold a faculty appointment in the department
of Computer Science and is expected to lead the creation of the Institute
for Cybersecurity, which builds on top of existing research and educational
strengths in cybersecurity and will span multiple departments across NJIT.
As the Director of the Institute for Cybersecurity, the candidate must
attract funding and develop collaborative relationships with industry. The
candidate must demonstrate recognition for productivity and achievement in
research and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues. The ideal
candidate should have a strong business sense, experience in new
program/center development and an understanding of what it takes to enhance
research funding in a competitive environment. Exceptional organizational
and communication skills, financial acumen, and the potential to fundraise
are essential. As a faculty member of the Computer Science department, the
successful candidate is expected to contribute to the academic life of the
department, in terms of education, research and service.

NJIT is a Carnegie R1 Doctoral University (Very High Research Activity),
with $166M research expenditures in FY21. The Computer Science Department
has 31 tenured/tenure track faculty, with eight NSF CAREER awardees and one
DARPA Young Investigator recipient. The department conducts research on
real-world grand challenges in computer science and plays a key role in the
NJIT Cybersecurity Research Center. The department is designated by the NSA
as a National Center for Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense, and it hosts
an NSF Scholarship for Service program. The department has strong
connections with local industry and works closely with many companies
through industry affiliate programs; these include major high-tech
companies (Amazon, Apple, Facebook, Google, Microsoft) as well as
financial/Wall Street companies (Bank of America, JP Morgan Chase) and
Pharmaceuticals (Johnson & Johnson, Merck). The Computer Science Department
enrolls over 2,400 students at all levels across eleven programs of study
and takes part, alongside the Departments of Informatics and Data Science,
in the YWCC. YWCC comprises 34% of the NJIT enrollment, educating more than
4,000 students in computing disciplines, and graduating ~1,000 computing
professionals every year; as such, it is the largest producer of computing
talent in the tri-state (NY, NJ, CT) area. The Computer Science Department
is housed in a state-of-the art facility renovated in 2018. YWCC is
undergoing significant growth as a priority area for NJIT. This growth is
an integral part of NJIT's five-year strategic plan, which calls for
positioning NJIT as a world-class institution of higher education and
research.

Applied research, collaboration with industry, innovation and
entrepreneurship are encouraged and supported. Performance and tenure
expectations are aligned with those of the broader academic computing
community, with an emphasis on grant funding and publishing in top
conferences and journals, and contributing to our undergraduate and
graduate instructional programs. NJIT is located in Newark's University
Heights, a vibrant sprawling downtown campus close to Rutgers-Newark, New
Jersey Innovation Institute, Essex Community College, New Jersey Medical
School, University Hospital, and Rutgers School of Dental Medicine. The
Newark/New York City metropolitan area is emerging as an important
technology hub, with a burgeoning Silicon Alley tech sector, which includes
large high-tech companies as well as a vibrant ecosystem of innovative
start-ups. NJIT has recently expanded its graduate programs to a satellite
location in Jersey City, just across the Hudson River from the financial
district of Lower Manhattan in New York City, where it serves the vast pool
of working professionals in the region. NJIT has recently partnered with
Ben-Gurion University of the Negev to create the Institute for Future
Technologies, which seeks to become the region's next hub of technological
innovation.

Known as The Garden State, New Jersey ranks third in the nation in terms of
median household income, features an excellent quality of life, and offers
a wide range of lifestyle and entertainment options, including urban areas
(Newark/New York metropolitan area), suburban areas (Princeton), oceanfront
areas (Atlantic City, the Jersey Shore) and rural/bucolic areas (along the
Delaware River in Western New Jersey). Also, Newark's Penn Station is on
Amtrak's Northeast Corridor, which links several metropolitan areas from
Washington DC to Boston MA by the Acela high speed train. Newark Liberty
International Airport is a major international transportation hub.

To formally apply for the position, please submit your application at
https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/22924. NJIT recognizes the
importance of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in academia and
society at large. Candidates who have a track record in DEI are requested
to also submit an optional Diversity Statement.

Applications received by December 31, 2022 will receive full consideration.
However, applications are welcome until the positions are filled, and will
be evaluated as they are received. Contact address for inquiries:
