The Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering at the University of Waterloo invites applications for a tenure track position with an anticipated start date of September 1, 2019. Candidates with a proven research record in building, evaluating, experimenting©\with and scaling©\of Computer Systems Software with contributions being publishable in operating systems, database system or distributed systems venues are especially appealing. It is anticipated that the position will be at the rank of Assistant Professor. In exceptional cases, an appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Full Professor will be considered.



Applicants must have a PhD in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a related discipline. Evidence of an actively developing research program is required. Duties will include research, teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level, and supervising graduate students. In addition, the candidate will be expected to teach a mix of undergraduate courses such as operating systems, database systems, and distributed systems as well as develop and teach innovative graduate courses. The successful candidate will be equally committed to ensuring excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching as he or she is to research.



Based on qualifications and rank hired, annual salary will typically range from $100,000 to $150,000. For exceptionally qualified candidates, a higher annual salary will be considered. The successful candidate will be required to have an engineering license for practice in Canada or to apply for an engineering license or limited engineering license within five years.
