The development of software-intensive systems is continuously evolving
and faces many new challenges. New technologies, such as cloud
computing, Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), etc.
as well as continuous engineering processes, such as DevOps, are being
employed in new open contexts with more pervasive software, e.g., in
Smart Cities, Smart Manufacturing, Smart Mobility, etc. This special
issue will focus on collecting the latest research results on such
emerging topics.

The topics relevant to this special issue include, but are not
restricted to, the following:
-    Software management & processes
-    Software quality & technical debt
-    Cloud-native computing & DevOps
-    Embedded systems, edge computing & IoT
-    Model-driven software engineering
-    AI-supported software engineering
-    Data and AI-driven software engineering
-    Mining open data and software repositories

Please note that Surveys, (Systematic) Literature Reviews or Mapping
Studies are out of the scope of the special issue and will be
desk-rejected.

*** Submission Guidelines ***

The call for this special issue is an open call. In addition, the
authors of the best papers of the 45th Euromicro Conference on Software
Engineering and Advanced Applications (SEAA 2020) will be invited to
submit extended versions of their papers.

Authors are encouraged to submit high-quality, original work that has
neither appeared in, nor is under consideration by, other journals or
conferences. If an earlier version of this work has been published, then
this submission must be at least 30% different and the authors should
explain in the introduction the delta between this new paper and the
prior version. Please note that the papers from SEAA 2020 that are also
invited for this special issue, are subject to the same rule. Authors
are requested to attach to the submitted paper their relevant,
previously published articles and a summary document explaining the
enhancements made in the journal version.

All manuscripts and any supplementary material should be submitted
through the Elsevier Editorial System at http://ees.elsevier.com/jss.
Follow the submission instructions given on this site. Please, select
the article type as “VSI: SEAA-2020”, from the “Choose Article Type”
pull-down menu during the submission process. All submitted papers
should adhere to the general principles of the Journal of Systems and
Software articles. Submissions have to be prepared according to the
Guide for Authors, available on the journal website. The submitted paper
must follow the format specified in the JSS Guide for Authors
https://www.elsevier.com/journals/journal-of-systems-and-software/0164-1212/guide-for-authors.
