If you have not seen it, the following call for participation in a review of the CS Core in the forthcoming CS2023 curriculum recently went out to a number of ACM SIG mailing lists. The announcement is included below, with a deadline of Monday, May 15th to sign up to participate.

Members of this community may be particularly interested in participating in this process, so we wanted to amplify this announcement. Representatives of the CS2023 Task Force have said that they understand the need to design a CS Core of required topics that is feasible for all programs to cover. They are specifically hoping to get strong representation from liberal arts colleges and institutions with smaller CS majors who may be particularly concerned about the size and content of a CS Core.

For background on the CS2023 Computer Science Curriculum development process to date, you can visit their site at csed.acm.org<https://csed.acm.org/>. The SIGCSE Committee on Computing Education in Liberal Arts Colleges also maintains a page of our activities collaborating with the ACM/IEEE-CS/AAAI CS2023 Task Force at: https://computing-in-the-liberal-arts.github.io/CS2023/

Our recent letter to the Task Force, providing feedback on the Beta Version of CS2023<https://computing-in-the-liberal-arts.github.io/CS2023/CS2023_Beta_Feedback.pdf>, may be of particular interest. This feedback focuses on the size and content of the CS Core and the proposed structure of the curriculum.

We hope that many of you will volunteer to take part in this opportunity to help shape the next set of CS curriculum guidelines.

Best,
Amanda Holland-Minkley, on behalf of the Committee on Computing Education in Liberal Arts Colleges

Subject: CS2023: Invitation to participate in core topics surveys and focus groups - RSVP by May 15th

Dear Computer Science educator:

Before you put away your marker pens and laser pointers for the summer, please hear us out!

A joint task force of the ACM, IEEE-Computer Society and AAAI is now revising Computer Science curricula (csed.acm.org<https://nam02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fcsed.acm.org%2F&data=05%7C01%7Cahollandminkley%40WASHJEFF.EDU%7C9011160b2e254e9d3e9c08db4c1a64e1%7C00758a75d55f4737a49c29f42e96b59b%7C0%7C0%7C638187448496840057%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=HHiv0bZl7n%2ByVi4Lyfwn8%2FGcwqIUnLo9TARf2dvhHbA%3D&reserved=0>). As part of its charge, it is reviewing the core topics that must be covered in every Computer Science program.

In order to do so, the task force is assembling a group of educators for a series of short surveys and focus group meetings to be held over the next two months.

If you are a Computer Science educator interested in curricular matters, we invite you to apply to participate in this exercise by filling out the following form: https://forms.gle/rXHottpAfFWLXMCF6

We particularly encourage educators from smaller Computer Science programs (smaller defined in terms of the number of courses required to graduate with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science) to participate in the exercise.

Participants in the surveys and focus groups will be acknowledged in the final curricular report. In addition, they will be entered into a raffle for $100 gift certificates at the completion of the exercise. Up to 10 gift certificates will be raffled off. It is not necessary to participate in every survey and focus group to qualify for the raffle. But, an educator's name will be re-entered into the raffle every time they participate in a survey or focus group, thereby increasing their chances of winning a gift certificate. Raffle awards will be limited to one gift certificate per winner.

For best consideration, please fill out the form by Monday, May 15th. Please publicize this opportunity to your colleagues who may also be interested but are not on this mailing list.

Thank you for your consideration.
The CS2023 Task Force
