I agree with this.

The spam discussion has occured on other lists I read, and the
consensus there seems to be that allowing only subscribers to post
removes a lot of spam.

I expect people who post to this list asking for help to also read the
list, so they can offer help to others. It's a two-way street. So I
don't see that we lose anything by restricting posters to also be
readers.
