Answer: "Reports of my death are greatly exaggerated."

Somebody at DISA (Defense Information Services Agency?) wrote:

..... The question of Ada bindings in JMTK (and the rest of the COE, for
that matter), is going to have to be reviewed at the ......

The issue is one of cost -- it seems that the Army is the only service
using Ada (so much for a Joint standard!) so the generals/admirals will
have to decide which functions to make available and who will pay for the
creation of the bindings......

------------------

Since this was embedded in an electronic discussion of software
development issues, it was repeated several times to many people. One of
the repetitions included the comment:

Its interesting that DISA says that the Army is the only government org.
using Ada.

------------------

I tried to control the damage by speculating:

Maybe they mean the Army is the only service wanting to use Ada and JMTK
together.

The Army is NOT the only service using Ada. The project I was on in
Syracuse is still in progress--five million SLOC of Ada for the Navy. The
same company is (last I heard) developing a database system in Ada 95 for
the Air Force. Lockheed Sanders in New Hampshire is doing thousands if
not millions of SLOC of Ada for the Air Force and the intelligence
agencies.

[I didn't notice the switch from "service" to "government org." or I
would have also mentioned NASA.....]
