Robert, what on earth makes you think Gates and company are telling the
truth here?  Yes they do drive prices down until they own the market, but
then it stops.  Look at explorer as someone pointed out on one of my
mailing lists, the went from way behind netscape to catching up in versions
1-3.  so you would think if they can keep up that kind of pace version 4
would have blown netscape away, didnt happen.  version 4 of IE is not that
different from netscape in ways that matter to the user.  the effort in 3-4
went into finding ways to make things that used to be open, closed windows
proprietary things. like the so called integration into windows-95, and
beyond.  I would argue that once gates has a market sewed up prices quite
falling, and will probably go up.  i suspect i would already be happening
without the heat from the justice dept.
