To Members and Friends of DC SIGAda;

December Meeting:

Our Next Meeting is scheduled for 14 December 2000 as a Joint Meeting
of the Baltimore and DC SIGAda Chapters. Jim Moore, of The MITRE
Corporation, will be speaking on Software Engineering Standards.
The presentation will start at 7:30 P.M. (Refreshments and Social at
7:00 P.M.) at the Lockheed Martin Corporation in Rockville, Maryland.

Snacks and soft drinks will be served at 7:00 PM, the general meeting
will start at 7:30 PM, followed by the program.

Abstract: Software Engineering Standards

Ada has long been touted as the standard language for software engineering.
However, the corpus of software engineering standards is completely distinct
from Ada and is developed and maintained by distinct standards
organizations. This presentation will survey the software engineering
standards of the two major providers, IEEE and ISO/IEC JTC1/SC7. The
presentation will describe the scope of the standards, their status, and
the process by which they are created. Opportunities for participation will
also be described.

Presenter: Jim Moore, from The MITRE Corporation:
The presenter, Jim Moore, is a winner of the Outstanding Ada Community
Contribution Award. Wearing another hat, though, he plays key roles in the
two organizations mentioned above. He is the Head of the US Delegation to
ISO/IEC JTC1/SC7 and he is a member of the Management Board of the IEEE
Software Engineering Standards Committee. His email address is:
