Even though you and I know this is not a good decision, I think it reflects
the reality of the situation within DoD...being the 'Ada mandate' is no
longer in force, there is an acute shortage of trained Ada programmers
within and wothout DoD, and the availability of COTS components and tools
which are abundant in the civilian sector are having an impact on DoD.

As the defense sector can not compete with the civilian as far as pay,
benefits, and variety of projects, I think the situation for the continued
use of Ada looks bleak.  Maybe we should be glad that the existance of Ada
has had some positive effect on software technology.  Compiler design has
been influenced by Ada's capabilities and will continue to do so.  I would
sure like to see an Ada2K and something beyond that, but IMHO, I don't see
it happening.  So sad...
