Sorry I don't have time for a big reply, but I have to quickly add here:

Rational's Apex Ada (the whole thing, not an educational version) and most
of our other products and training are also free of charge to acredited
degree-granting educational institutions via the SEED program.  For more

So to paraphrase Mike Feldman, access to compilers (and other development
tools) is NO LONGER A PROBLEM for schools AT ALL!!
