Happy 1997 to all! I trust it's starting out well for all of you
and that 1997 promises to be a great year for all your Ada endeavors!!

On behalf of all the officers of ACM SIGAda, I would like to extend
our sincerest thanks and appreciation to Tri-Ada'96 Chair JORGE DIAZ-HERRERA
and the excellent crew of key people (see cc's above) on his
conference committee for organizing and presenting an outstanding
Tri-Ada in Philadephia last month. I heard nothing but compliments
about the quality of the technical program, the overall organizing,
and the venue!

Best of all, the positive spirit of all attendees and the evidence
that Ada 95 is now gaining real steam created optimism again for the
future of Ada among all of us [some points of the NRC Ada study
notwithstanding]. And, it doesn't hurt that, after Tri-Ada'95 almost
got there, Tri-Ada'96 totally halted our many-year decline in Tri-Ada
attendance (at 500-some).

SIGAda is very encouraged to have this proof that we can continue
to sponsor a highly successful conference/tutorials/exhibition
of significant value to our members and the Ada community at large
in today's down-sized (but now stable?) environment, and that it
continues to recognized as the centerpiece event for Ada technology!

This could not have happened without the services and personal
sacrifices of Jorge and the entire Tri-Ada'96 Conference Committee.
Organizations and societies such as SIGAda and conferences like
Tri-Ada thrive on the backs of dedicated volunteers. Without them, we
would have nothing of value. We hope we are lucky enough in the
future to continue to attract such fine volunteer talent (both as
event organizers and as officers!), and that they will all enjoy the
rewards (albeit, usually totally intangible) that come from a job well
done and from the experiences of affiliating with other like-minded people.

May 1997 be onwards and upward for Ada, the Ada community, SIGAda,
ACM, and the professional principles and goals we all believe in!

        -- Hal
