Mr. Barr:

A few weeks ago, I read an article in some magazine (I don't know whether
it was ESP) which pointed out the need for all programmers to do some
activity because of a particular deficiency of C, C++, and Java.  What was
irritating was that this statement--indeed most of the article--was
written as if there ARE no other languages.

Such a style is (searching for a kind way to say it) unfortunate because:

1. every language has at least one advantage of others, and

2. when there is a flas in one language there's sure to be a language
   somewhere that does not have that flaw.

I was pleased to see that ESP for October DOES acknowledge that C, C++,
and Java are not the only game in town and especially that ESP doesn't
pretend they are best of all possible worlds.  I refer specifically to the
first two cover articles.  The first, though not about languages, points
out a few flaws of C++, and the second shows how Ada is better than C++
for some aspects of OOP.

Thanks.  It would be nice to see more such articles.  Perhaps other
languages (Eiffel?) could also receive a little attention.  There are
even people who claim you can do embedded work in Visual Basic.
(No further comment on THAT from me!!)
