Of course math majors forgot how to calculate, they use computer
tools for all calculations and they do the creative thinking and
problem solving. The senior domain engineers should ask junior
engineers who will at least know one tool: the signal processing
module in that one commercial software tool that replaces almost
all of an electrical engineer.

Engineers (with at least one mathematician on the team) can solve
problems. But they are people and therefore their calculations are
not reliable. They should be used for problem solving, not
calculation or any other standards compliance. Whatever standard
you wish to impose (like accurate integration computation or
capitalization) should be done via automated tools, not by
imposition on people.
