"International Organization for Standardization" is the correct long
name for ISO in English.  Since ISO potentially serves all countries,
its name can be translated into many languages, and it didn't want to
pick *one* language as the source for an acronym.  It thus picked "ISO"
as a short name based upon the Greek word "isos" meaning "equal".  The
prefix "iso-" was derived from this word.  You can verify this at URL:

Us "Ada people" need to be careful not to try to interpret names as if
they were acronyms.  "ISO" is *not* "Another Damn Acronym (ADA).  :-)
