Dean Esposito provided one of the most explicit Ada job offers
we have seen so far. It was very informative. Thank you, Dean.

Dean> We currently have sixty plus openings in for Ada programmers.

Dean> Cutting edge technology

Dean> In house Masters Degree program

Dean> 9 day / 80 hour work period allows an additional day off every 2 weeks

So, the job is not to develop the Advanced Field Artillery Tactical
Data System. What these people will actually be paid for is to sit
in the office 80 hours every two weeks. The development effort is
secondary to the politics of office control. While this is not
good, it is very GOOD TO KNOW.

For example, this kind of politics generally is not interested in
contractors based on the coast, no matter how much more productive
they might be than locally based programmers. The reason for
having more experienced Ada programmers on the coasts than in
the Mid-West is that many (not all!) programmers migrate towards
the higher salaries.

At some point in our history, when technical jobs need to be done,
the country will turn off the politics of control and apply the
right kind of expertise to the problem. Running an engineering
project like a service counter producing pancakes always loses money.
The problem is the little martinet pacing back and forth behind
the cola jerks lining up their cups filled with cokes in little lines.
The martinet is constantly pointing at them to produce more little
lines of coke. The project problems actually come from the energy
wasted by the love-hate relationship with the martinet, the
constant coke leakage, the hanging pointer finger on the martinet,
and the mis-match between the kinds of cokes being jerked versus
the needs of the customer requesting the cokes.

Dean > Salary Range: 42k - 65K + Profit Sharing

Probably not very good. The average senior programmer with a
masters degree on the cost is making $74. Newly hired senior
programmers are making more. Most of the Ada programmers
are on the coasts, and many of them are making more than this.
It is hard to ask someone used to a higher salary to go down
to a lower salary.

Location: Indiana (Relocation Assistance will be provided)

Again, for those who are not native to the Mid-West, this may
not be so good.

Questions: Why are no database, communication, design, realtime,
or distributed Ada systems experts being hired? Why no testing
experts? Why employees rather than an optimal mixture of
employees and contractors?

Again, thanks for explicitly laying out the staff requirements
you are trying to fulfill. It makes it a lot easier to read
quickly, and makes it more likely that the ad will find someone
who can work under those conditions at this time.
