The Portable Applications Standards Committee of the IEEE Computer Society
invites you to ballot on

Title: P1003.5c - Information Technology -- POSIX Ada language Interfaces
-- Part 1: Binding for system Application Interface (API) -- Amendment 2:
Protocol Independent Interfaces

Scope: This document is part of the POSIX series of standards for
applications and user interfaces to open systems. It defines the Ada
language bindings as package specifications and accompanying textual
descriptions of the applications program interface(API). The standard
supports application portability at the source code level through the
binding between ISO 8652: 1995 (Ada) and ISO/IEC 9945-1: 1990 (IEEE Std
1003.1-1990) (POSIX), as amended by IEEE Draft Std 1003.1g (Protocol
Independent Interfaces). This standard covers the Detailed Network
Interface (DNI) for the X/Open Transport Interface (XTI) and BSD sockets.

Purpose: No standard currently specifies an Ada language binding for
POSIX.1g, although there is significant demand for one. This project will
provide such a standard.

*IMPORTANT NOTICE: PASC Balloting is open to individuals who wish to
participate either as a "balloting group member," or as an "observer."
Balloting group members must be IEEE or Computer Society members, and must
return ballots. (Failure to return ballots may result in an individual
being removed from the pool for future balloting invitations.) Observers
will receive the same materials as the balloting group members; however,
such participants do not need to be IEEE or Computer Society members, nor
are they required to return ballots. Comments from observers will be
treated as "public comments" in the balloting process (these may result in
changes to the document). Observer are not tallied in the counts of the
ballot. This allows interested persons to track the work during the
balloting process by receipt of drafts developed in balloting, and even to
comment without the obligation to return ballots.
