I hope that this might be of interest to some of you. If you have any
relevant work to this meeting, it is a good place to present. One of the
Chairs of the Internet-Based Manufacturing (VV13) is My daughter, Liza Leif.
I can assure you that she is NOT prejudiced against either Ada or Software
Engineering.

Internet-based computing and global competitiveness have revolutionized the
way businesses and customers interact. Manufacturing companies are
responding to these changes and challenges in their industry by extending
current Internet trends to create virtual marketplaces where factories,
suppliers, and customers are part of the solution. The vision of a
completely integrated environment is not new; however, the technologies
needed to accomplish these business-to-business and business-to-customers
solutions are very complex. While internet technology providers provide web
sites with commerce features and inventory data, the vision also includes
communication between the factory floor and the web site. Accomplishing this
task will require the integration of everything from internal business
systems to process level control systems. The issues associated with this
endeavor requires network intelligence to handle "networking" issues of
security, reliability, authentication, and firewalls; encryption algorithms;
"integration" issues of interoperability, communication, and distributed
resources; and "managing" issues of information coordination and
negotiation/bid processes.

This conference will provide a forum for software engineers and
manufacturing engineers to discuss the different aspects of systems
integration and process control with specific emphasis on the use of
technologies for achieving open system models across networks.

Papers are invited on the following and related topics:

integrating process control with business systems using the internet as a
virtual enterprise infrastructure

tools and methodologies for achieving agent-based manufacturing over the
Internet

authentication and access control for internet computing

developing intelligent data response systems to support the manufacturing
process: Issues from the manufacturer/software sides.

integrating back office business systems and internet technology
econometrics of internet marketplaces, i.e., just in time inventories,
costing and supplying.

distribution issues and viability of implementing customer-directed
customization of manufactured products.

using network intelligence to drive process and quality improvements.
