Hi all,

Well, I guess this is a consequence of ACM's new policy that allows
one to be a dues-paying member of a SIG, but not of ACM as a whole.

I get can't too excited about the situation. People used to complain
that they had to join ACM to join a SIG. Now that ACM has changed its
policy, so you could cancel your ACM membership and stay in the SIG,
you're annoyed that ACM has closed them out of the members' part of
the website. Part of me says you can't have it both ways.:-)

> As a dues-paying member of SIGAda, I ought to get my copy of Ada Letters!

Well, you will certainly get the paper copy; it's just the online one
that's (apparently) open only to ACM members. On the other hand,
have you _tried_ getting in to the site? Were you rejected?

(It wuld do no good for me to try - I am an ACM member.:-))

Hmmm - I wonder how strongly ACM would object to a SIG putting its
own newsletter on its own site (in addition to the ACM Digital
Library). After all, SIGAda does that with conferences now, though
we wait till after the conference. The SIGAda site is completely public.
(The last two, maybe three, SIGAda/TRI-Ada conferences are online
now at SIGAda.)

The relationship between ACM and its SIGs has always involved some
complicated politics. With the advent of the Digital Library, this
is bound to get even trickier.
