Dear Team Ada:

A while back there was a lot of discussion about folks getting together
to address common concerns and issues. More recently there have been
concerns raised on how to leverage Microsoft's marketing, the definition
of a standard, Ada showcase applications, Linux and Ada issues, the
future of Ada, killer Ada apps, forming an Ada marketer's association,
Ada RTOS, amongst many other concerns.

Many of these concerns are worthy of a focused workshop to address the
issues and perhaps formulate a course of action that would be valuable
to the entire Ada community.

An excellent venue for such a focused workshop would be in conjunction
with the SIGAda 2000 conference which will be held from 12-16 November
2000 in Laurel, Maryland at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics
Laboratory. This conference will bring together many people who will
also share your concerns and be interested in addressing them.

Currently there are two workshops in the planning stages:

1. Ada Semantic Interface Specification (ASIS) Workshop
(for Sunday 12 November from 7-10 PM) and
2. Cost Effective Approaches to Satisfy DO-178B
Level A (safety critical) Requirements (time TBD)

Additional workshops are very welcome.

SIGAda 2000 will actually have 2 types of forums that can satisfy the
needs of Team-Ada. The first is a focused workshop; the second is a
Birds-Of-a-Feather. The focused workshop has a defined goal; a report is
expected which will be published in Ada Letters. Focused workshops can
last a couple of hours to several days. The BOF gives you the
opportunity to discuss things of importance in an informal venue; no
report is expected. BOFs are ideal for issues needing an hour or two.
Either mechanism could help address the concerns identified in the
Team-Ada email traffic and result in something of value to us all.

If anyone is interested in proposing a workshop or BOF, they should
contact the SIGAda 2000 Conference Workshops Chair, Dr. Alok Srivastava
at <[log in to unmask]>. Please copy me at <[log in to unmask]>
Workshop and BOF proposals should contain a title as well as a short
abstract identifying its goal/purpose/outcome. We will be very happy to
arrange for a room to satisfy your needs. If you want to find out more
about the SIGAda 2000 Conference, please check out the SIGAda 2000 Home
Page at:

This is an excellent time to submit a proposal for workshops and BOFs.
We are in the process of finalizing the Advance Program (AP) for the
SIGAda 2000 Conference. Workshops that are finalized before the AP is
put to bed will be advertised in the AP and mailed to all in the Ada
community. Otherwise announcements will be on the SIGAda 2000 Home Page
and also distributed by email.

You are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity. We will
consider Ada related topics as well as those with a broad appeal to the
software engineering community.
