EE Times, September 25, 2000, page 103: "Within the traditional embedded space ... choices must still be made among C, C++ and Java, and in what combination ..." Even worse, page 106: "... developers are looking for ways to get closer to the silicon .... Much attention ... on extending C, C++ and Java as alternatives to hardware-description methodologies such as VHDL and Verilog." At least one of us has in a .sig "Would you board an aircraft programmed in C++?" This takes the question to a new level! Earlier in the issue, someone laments the crippling of defense capabilities due to software engineers reaching for Web and entertainment jobs. Isn't part of this exodus due to the myth that Ada is dead? People want to work where they _think_ the future is. Especially those that like hacking and debugging better than delivering. (A worse problem is people who know better, but select C++ or Java where they are not appropriate because getting the "right" things on their resumes is more important than the success of the project.) -- Wes Groleau http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~wgroleau
