Ischia, the largest of the three islands in the gulf of Naples, is situated in the
northern part of the Gulf, looking toward the Flegrea coast. Her sister Capri
lies in the south of the Gulf, right in front of the Sorrento Peninsula.
The isle of Ischia is one of the most attractive resorts of Southern Italy and
the most visited sea resort in the Mediterranean. It is internationally renowned
since the times of Ulysses, not only for its natural beauties and
its clear sea waters, but also because of the volcanic origin of the island
that makes it one of the major thermal treatment centers in Europe.
Wine connaisseurs will be able to enjoy several red and white local varieties,
from Biancolella (Ianculella) to Piedirosso (Per'`e palummo).
When in Ischia, be sure not to miss the Aragonese Castle,
the tower of St. Angelo, the beach of Maronti, and the Thermal Parks,
as well as the tourist harbor, with private yachts coming
from all over Europe and the Mediterranean Countries.
The surrounding area also includes the ancient Roman cities of Pompei
and Ercolano, the Vesuvio, the many marvellous places along the world
famous Amalfi coast (Positano, Amalfi, Ravello, Vietri, Salerno),
and a little further away (30 km south of Salerno) the ancient Greek city
of Paestum with its impressive temples.
Special hotel rates have been arranged for SEKE'02 participants.
