In today's schools, homes, and public spaces, children are becoming frequent and
experienced users of technology. As this trend continues, it is increasingly
important to ask if we understand today's young people and can fulfill their
technology needs. With this in mind, IDC 2004 will focus on addressing the
challenges of interaction design for children and explore the opportunities and
impact that new technologies can afford young people in their everyday lives.

To address emerging research and product areas, IDC 2004 will look for papers,
demonstrations, posters, doctoral proposals, tutorials and workshop submissions
that may include at least one of the following broad areas:

**Emerging technologies for children (e.g., educational simulations,
online games, mobile communications devices, wireless embedded technologies,
authoring/programming tools)
**The impact these technologies can have on children's lives (e.g., in
schools, at home, in public spaces)
**New research methods which give children a voice in the design,
development, and evaluation processes (e.g., participatory design methods,
usability testing, etc.)
