Workshop Call for Participation: Theory and Method for Experience Centered Design CHI 2006 - Montréal, Quebec, Canada Sunday 23rd April 2006 http://www.chi2006.org In recent years the scope of human-computer interaction design has widened to include concerns with fun, emotion, beauty, aesthetics and values. There is an increasing emphasis on holistic approaches to user experience and what is now called experience design. A number of frameworks and theoretical approaches to experience design have been developed and a range of methods and techniques have also been proposed. While there are differences in these approaches there are also a number of similarities in that they are all concerned with analysing sensations and emotions as well as perceptions and behaviours. This workshop will critically explore these approaches through discussions of theory, method and case studies. Participants are invited to submit a two to four-page position paper. Contributions may be outlines of a theoretical position, examples of methods and techniques for experience design or case studies. Participants who would like to attend without presenting a paper may submit a one-page expression of interest. The aims of the workshop will be to: * map state of the art practice in experience design in terms of methods and techniques * chart similarities and differences in theoretical approaches * identify future challenges and inform a research agenda. Participants will be welcomed from a range of disciplines including: HCI, Interaction Design, Experience Design, Digital Arts and Media, Psychology, Sociology, Cultural Studies, Literary Studies, Art and Design Studies. The submissions will be refereed by the organising committee. The main criteria for selection are that the author has an original and relevant contribution to make in terms of theory, method or case study. We are very keen to promote discussion even if it means that only a subset of participants make a formal presentation. Because of this, the format for the day will be decided once we have reviewed the submissions.
