Hi everyone, I'm working on three journal articles and am uncertain about where to submit them. I've reviewed the list at http://www.hcibib.org/hci-sites/JOURNALS.html, which is quite comprehensive but doesn't really give me a feel for the intangibles: the journal's reputation, how difficult it is to get published in it, etc. I'd very much appreciate any opinions, suggestions, or advice on where to submit. I've listed the article below with a brief description of each. Thanks! Howard ARTICLES -------------- 1) UNDERSEA WINDOW CASE STUDY. Describes how a user-centered design process was applied to the development of a high-definition video camera that will be deployed on the floor of the Pacific Ocean and controlled remotely by scientists across Canada. The UI provides visual context that maintains a spatial overview while users zoom in on image details and functions effectively even in conditions of significant network delay. We submitted this to CHI work-in-progress but it was not accepted, mostly because reviewers didn't buy that it was a work in progress (the design looked pretty complete). 2) HOW MAY I HELP YOU? HCI AND CALL-CENTER CULTURE. This ethnography explores the human-computer interaction between call-center agents and agent-facing software. Twenty semi-structured interviews were completed along with site observations at two call centers. Productivity and agent job satisfaction were associated with usable software designed with user input. 3) COMMAND LANGUAGE DESIGN: Heuristics for a Command Line Interface that Every Geek Will Love. Presents 16 research-based heuristics that can be applied to the design of a user-friendly command line interface (which Don Norman recently described as "the next UI breakthrough," see http://www.jnd.org/dn.mss/ui_breakthroughcomma.html). Each heuristic is supported by research and described in the context of a design process used to develop a command language for Ericsson Research. --------------------------------- | H o w a r d K i e w e | USER EXPERIENCE CONSULTANT 4792 rue Dagenais, Montreal Quebec, Canada H4C 1L7 http://howardkiewe.com/ Tel: (514) 485-6373 Cell: (514) 963-6373 RESEARCH ASSOCIATE McGill University, Centre for Intelligent Machines (CIM) 3480 University Street McConnell Engineering Building, Room 410 Montreal, Canada H3A 2A7 http://www.cim.mcgill.ca/~hkiewe/ -------------------------------------------------------------- Tip of the Day: Forward out-of-office replies to mailto:[log in to unmask] CHI-WEB: www.sigchi.org/web POSTINGS: mailto:[log in to unmask] MODERATORS: mailto:[log in to unmask] SUBSCRIPTION CHANGES & FAQ: www.sigchi.org/web/faq.html --------------------------------------------------------------
