*ACII 2011 - Call for Workshops, Doctoral Consortium, & Interactive Event
Proposals*
*October 9-12, 2011, Memphis, TN USA
http://www.acii2011.org
*

Affective Computing and Intelligent Interaction (ACII 2011) is the fourth
international conference and
premier forum for state of the art in research on affective and multimodal
intelligent systems. This year we are encouraging
papers on a range of topics from the interdisciplinary arena encompassing
Computer Science, Engineering, Virtual Agents, Psychology, and the
Affective, Cognitive, Learning, and Social Sciences. In addition to regular
papers (which are due April 1, 2011), ACII 2011 will also feature a Doctoral
Consortium, an Interactive Event, and a number of Workshops (please see
below and attached flyer)

*
Doctoral Consortium*

The ACII 2011 Doctoral Consortium (DC) serves as forum for PhD students to
share ideas about the theories behind affective computing, its development,
and its application. The goal of this Special Session of the Conference is
to compare approaches, discuss future research problems, and receive
feedback from the international community. *Papers of the Doctoral
Consortium will be published in the Conference Proceedings.* *Papers are due
June 1, 2011*.
Aims of the Doctoral Consortium

   - to provide PhD students with a friendly and lively atmosphere for
presenting their research ideas, exchanging experiences with peers, and
receiving constructive feedback on their work from the international
   research community;
   - to help students and doctoral candidates to formulate research
   questions and organize their research;
   - to help to forge new relationships and collaborations within the
International ACII community in order to promote collaborative research
   - to support a new generation of researchers with information and advice
on academic, research, industrial, and non-traditional career paths.

Submission Instructions Submissions should describe PhD research that is at
a stage where feedback from the international community might be of value.
Thus, it is expected that students who will submit papers should be close to
making a PhD research proposal, or have made it already but have at least a
year of work remaining to complete their PhD thesis. Submissions must not
exceed eight pages (including references)*. **Please see website for more
information and to submit your proposal

Interactive Event (Demos)*

The ACII 2011 Interactive Event Session serves as a forum for researchers
and practitioners to showcase recent advances in affective computing
applications. The goal for the demonstrations is to illustrate the range of
applications and technical advances in the state of the art of affective
computing, in particular (but not only) regarding the main conference
topics<https://sites.google.com/a/acii2011.org/www/call-for-papers>.
The demos will showcase both mature systems and innovative prototypes and
the presenters will have the opportunity to discuss their systems with the
broader international scientific community and the public at large. *Two-page
Interactive Event papers will be published in the the Conference
Proceedings.* *Papers are due June 1, 2011.*
Submission InstructionsDemos of research prototype and commercial products
in the area of affective computing are welcome. They should be accompanied
by reasonably detailed technical explanations of the methods used. Demos
will be selected based on a number of factors including scientific
contribution, originality and innovation, social impact, and potential for
widespread use and acceptance. *Please see website for more information and

Workshops*

The ACII 2011 Workshops aim to facilitate lively discussions, comparison of
methods, synthesis of results on particular topics of interest to Affective
Computing. The workshops will be held on the first day of the main
conference, Sunday, October 9th, 2011.*
*

We invite workshop proposals on any current or emerging topic of relevance
for the fields of Affective Computing and Intelligent Interaction.
Evaluation of workshop proposals will be based on the quality of the
proposal, the level of details, the workshop theme, and its relevance to
ACII 2011. *A one page description of the accepted workshops will be
published as part of the main conference proceedings. Workshop proceedings
themselves will either be published as part of the conference proceedings or
in a separate volume. **Proposals are due April 15, 2011*.
