TOPIC

Health costs worldwide are rapidly increasing. Demographic structures are dramatically changing. Technological advances are increasing tremendously. The invariable need for quality remains.

Advances in Biomedical Informatics & Biomedical Engineering provide the foundations for modern patient-centered healthcare solutions, health care systems, technologies and techniques. The majority of computer-supported healthcare solutions of the last decades focused on the support of care-givers and medical professionals; this changed dramatically with the introduction of pervasive healthcare technologies – pHealth, providing support for a more diverse end user group to enable individualized and personalized medicine and health care.

Given the technological and sociological advances, an opportunity has opened to address the highly complex pervasive healthcare systems and non-homogeneous information technology and the challenge of a diversity of users and the increasing flood of data.

We seek papers addressing all aspects of pHealth; best practices, methods, methodologies and solutions of pHealth – ranging from sophisticated smart sensors, software platforms, medical devices and mobile applications towards aspects of user experience and technology acceptance.

The central idea of this book is to combine the best of two worlds: Human-Computer Interaction and Biomedical Informatics & Biomedical Engineering – focusing on the challenging concept towards individualized and personalized medicine and health care.

Additionally, each chapter shall include a section “future work” and a glossary of key terms.
