ECCE 2014 - "Cognition in the Wild" ECCE 2014, the 32nd Annual Conference of the European Association of Cognitive Ergonomics, is the premier conference addressing the interface between cognitive systems and interactive artefacts. It provides an opportunity for both researchers and practitioners to exchange new ideas and practical experiences across all areas of cognitive ergonomics and cognitive engineering. This year's theme is 'Cognition in the Wild'. The focus is how, in the course of (systems) design and evaluation, the various contexts involved in cognitive modelling - such as those of domain structures, task competences, and learning capabilities - can be revealed. The conference will take place on September 1-3 in the historic buildings of the University of Vienna, close to the city centre in Vienna, Austria. We look forward to meeting you there! Chris Stary, Chair, ECCE 2014 Call for papers 'Cognition in the Wild' refers to interactive settings involving cognitive, social, emotional, and technical factors. We solicit conceptual and empirical contributions addressing the following topics: Situation-Awareness - Elicitation of Cognitive Referents Cognitive Task Analysis - (activation of) Engagement Capacity-Building and Sense Making - Workload Balancing Support for Naturalistic Decision Making - Experience-Based Interaction Augmented Navigation - Preference Management Neuro-Ergonomics - Support For Changing Viewpoints Support for Developing Dynamic Capabilities - Handling Ambi-Dexterity Support for Meta-Cognitive Processes - Resilience and Diversity Submissions A variety of submission types is available: * Research Papers which present quality state-of-the-art research in areas relevant to cognitive ergonomics and cognitive engineering. Submissions should not exceed 8 pages (ACM style sheet). * Experience or Application Studies in which developers or users of interactive systems can report on experiences in development processes and applications in use. Submissions should not exceed 6 pages (ACM style sheet). * Interactive Education Techniques in which trainers, teachers, or facilitators can share conceptual findings and didactic impacts of relevance to cognitive ergonomics, or present scholarly applications for educational settings. Submissions should not exceed 4 pages (ACM style sheet). * Cognitive Architecture Demonstrations allow for sharing of development work and for receiving focused feedback. This track is an opportunity to showcase and discuss cognitive architectures and their implementation with other participants. Submissions should not exceed 4 pages (ACM style sheet). * Gong Show Contributions will consist of very short visionary ideas presentations concerning the next generation of cognitive architectures and cognitive engineering applications. The submission required is a 2-page extended abstract (ACM style sheet) indicating the originality of the approach. * Young Researcher Networking Event Contributions from Master or Doctoral students in a relevant area of cognitive ergonomics are solicited. Students can share ideas with peers, and receive feedback from the research and development communities. Academic Supervisors are encouraged to nominate suitable candidates. The submission required is a one page abstract (ACM style sheet) reflecting the theme and status of the work. Submission guidelines The submission language is British English, not American English. All submissions will be subject to double-blind review by an international body of program committee members. Individuals may appear as co-authors of several papers, but may present only one paper. Submissions will be handled exclusively through a selected Conference Management System. In order to assist in planning, potential authors are encouraged to register, in advance, their intention to submit. Submission format Submitted papers must follow the formatting guidelines for EACE ACM Online Proceedings contributions. Accepted papers must adhere strictly to all the guidelines which will be available early in 2014 on the EACE website. Publication Accepted papers will be published in the ACM Digital Library.
