of Information Technologies (SIT) invites applications from outstanding candidates for a continuing Senior Lecturer or Lecturer position (Level C or B) in Networks and Security, starting late 2014 or early 2015. This is an attractive opportunity for candidates
with strong research skills and an interest and passion for high quality teaching and research in networks and security. Level of appointment will be commensurate with level of qualifications and experience.
Established as the first computer science department in Australia in the 1960s, the school is research intensive and has a strong tradition of research-led teaching. The
school prides itself in its successful integration and cross-fertilisation of computer science, information systems, and software engineering at both research and teaching levels. It offers undergraduate majors in computer science, information systems, software
engineering (in collaboration with the School of Electrical and Information Engineering) and combined programs with business, arts, science, medical science and law. SIT also offers highly regarded postgraduate coursework degrees in information technology
and information technology management. The school has a vibrant and successful PhD program with more than ninety students enrolled at a given time.
SIT is one of the five schools in the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technologies which enjoys a strong reputation for research and teaching nationally and worldwide. The faculty is consistently ranked around the top 50 worldwide across the major global
ranking systems such as Times Higher Education, QS, and Shanghai Jiaotong University.
The school has close links with several research labs through its collaboration with the National ICT Australia (NICTA), CSIRO ICT Centre, Cooperative Research Centres (CRC) for Smart Services and Capital Markets, among others. SIT also has strong connections
with industry partners including IBM, CISCO, Accenture, HP, Google, Microsoft and major Sydney hospitals.
This position is a career opportunity in communication networks and security. You must have a PhD in Computer Science and a demonstrable track record in measurement of
networks. Example application domains include internet, software defined networks and social networks. Awareness of the importance of cybersecurity, forensics and privacy as first class concerns in network research will be highly regarded.
You will be expected to establish a research group that will have impact through theory, design, and practical evaluation of networks and disseminate contributions through
publications in top international venues (eg, INFOCOM, Transactions on Networking, SIGCOMM). You will also engage in deep collaboration on larger projects with other research groups within the school and internationally. You will be capable of designing and
teaching network and security subjects in the school's curriculum, as well as diversifying the teaching broadly in computer science. A strong commitment to teaching and learning is required, as is evidence of the ability to (i) lecture and prepare new teaching
material, (ii) develop new units of study (iii) obtain competitive research funding and (iv) supervise (or be part of a supervisory team) research students.
The position is full-time continuing, subject to completion of a satisfactory probation and confirmation period for new appointees. You must be able to start in late 2014 or early 2015. Membership of a University-approved superannuation scheme is a condition
Remuneration package: $107K-$144K p.a., including a base salary range Level B-C $91K-$121K, leave loading, and 17% employerís contribution to superannuation. Visa sponsorship and some relocation support will be available if required.
