Workshop: Everyday Telepresence: Emerging Practice and Future Research Directions Date: April 19, 2015 @ CHI 2015 NEW DEADLINE: January 19! Submission website: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=chi2015 Telepresence technologies—systems that provide the perception of presence within a physically remote or simulated site—have recently seen increased adoption in home, business, medical, and educational settings, spurred by advances in mobile devices, networking, virtual reality, and robotics. The integration of these technologies into people's lives—e.g., using their phones to video chat with friends, receiving care from doctors via telemedical devices, or watching a grandson's baseball game over a tablet—has opened up a vast new space for future research. As a result, new questions have emerged about how telepresence systems may affect current theories, alter user perceptions, influence communicative behaviors, or support distant relationships. Our goal for this workshop is to engage researchers and designers across multiple telepresence-related disciplines---including virtual reality, teleoperation, telepresence robotics, mobile telepresence, computer-mediated communication, video-mediated communication, and telemedicine. We aim to build common ground for researchers from different backgrounds, allowing them to share their perspectives, methodologies, and results from their own investigations in telepresence, and to promote communication, collaboration, and discussion on how to advance the field. Prospective authors are invited to submit position papers demonstrating research, design, practice or interest in telepresence. Position papers should be no more than 4 pages long and in the ACM SIGCHI Extended Abstract format to https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=chi2015. At least one author of each accepted paper must attend the workshop and register for at least one day of the conference. Accepted submissions will be hosted on the workshop website, at http://hci.cs.wisc.edu/workshops/chi2015 --------------------------------------------------------------- For news of CHI books, courses & software, join CHI-RESOURCES mailto: [log in to unmask] To unsubscribe from CHI-ANNOUNCEMENTS send an email to mailto:[log in to unmask] For further details of CHI lists see http://listserv.acm.org ---------------------------------------------------------------
