Dear SPAA community, there is an opening for a postdoc position at USI Lugano in Switzerland, to be filled as soon as possible. The goal is to research novel flow algorithms, which then will be implemented on graphic cards in collaboration with industry. Here is one of the rare opportunities to do theoretical work in parallel and distributed algorithms and have a very immediate impact on practice! This is closely related to ongoing research on distributed and centralized flow algorithms by Andreas Karrenbauer and myself at MPI for Informatics, Saarbruecken, Germany. Depending on the candidate's preferences, there is the possibility for close collaboration with us; we will be happy to provide ample traveling support for frequent visits. Feel free to contact me or Rolf Krause ([log in to unmask]) if you have further questions. For applications, please refer to the job offer below. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Open PostDoc Position in Network Optimization in Lugano, Switzerland At the Institute of Computational Science at the Università della Svizzera italiana, a PostDoc position in network optimization is open. The successfull candidate will work together with the company sarmap (www.sarmap.ch) on the development of a parallel and efficient method for the solution of the minimum cost flow problem. The resulting algorithm shall be applied to phase unwrapping in the context of satellite data. Besides the necessary mathematical background, the successful candidate is expected to work closely together with the company sarmap in order to ensure the later applicability of the algorithm. Requirements: An MSc or equivalent degree in Computational Sciences, Engineering, Applied Mathematics/Physics, or a closely related discipline; experience in programming and problem solving; fundamentals of optimization; working knowledge of Linux environment; good communication skills and a positive attitude to collaborative work in a multidisciplinary environment; and fluency in English (spoken and written).
