*Scope of the Workshop*

The ACM Workshop on "Mobile Systems for Computational Social Science" brings together researchers working at computer science and social sciences to explore and discuss recent advances, radical ideas, and hands-on experiences in designing and evaluating new types of mobile systems and advancing social science studies. This is the fourth edition of the workshop, continuing the success of three previous editions which brought researchers from various areas including computer science, psychology, sociology, political science, communication; the previous three workshops were co-located with ACM MobiSys'12, ACM UbiComp'13, ACM UbiComp'14, respectively. This year we expect great interest not only from the researchers already actively working in this area but also from practitioners in industry and the mobile and social computing communities as a whole.

MCSS is motivated by the observations that smartphones are opening unprecedented opportunities to conduct social science studies in large-scale and longitudinal fashions. They enable unobtrusive collection of rich behavioral dataset such as physical sensory readings and on-line application use patterns. Also, smartphones can be used as 24/7 gateways for real-time intervention and feedback. Such powerful capabilities can facilitate larger-scale and timely social studies in a cost-effective way beyond traditional study methods such as self-reports, interviews, surveys, and observations under laboratory settings. Many exploratory works have proven that mobile phones are a promising computational platform upon which we plan, develop, and conduct various experimental studies related to social science disciplines. On the other hand, we are still facing multi-lateral challenges to truly take advantage of such opportunities, which cover various issues in mobile systems, data analytics, application and UI design for social studies, etc.

MCSS 2015 expect submissions on all aspects of mobile systems for computational social science including mobile system design, system technology, application, data analysis (qualitative or qualitative) and social experiments in mobile environment, mobile crowd sourcing, etc. Submissions covering social science research in mobile computing environment are especially encouraged.

We will invite to submit papers in the following areas:

* Design, implementation and evaluation of mobile systems for computational social science
* Experiment design of social and behavioral experiments using mobile technologies
* Design and implementation of algorithms for mobile system applications
* Architectural issues, including middleware and operating systems support for social applications
* Integration of mobile technologies and cloud computing for social applications
* Energy efficiency issues in designing socially-aware mobile systems
*              Mobile social sensing systems
* Implementation of mobile technologies for psychological and health interventions
* Integration of mobile and Web technologies for behavioral intervention
* Deployment and testing of mobile systems for social analysis and applications
* Data collection, anonymization and storage of social and behavioral data collected by means of mobile systems
*              Data protection and privacy
* Inference of high-level contexts beyond location and activity (e.g., intention, preference, attention, emotion)
* Large-scale data collection and experiments with crowdsourcing
* Deep personal analytics and self-quantization for persuasive mobile applications
* Application of IoT technology for social science studies
