Amidst fast economic growth and digital globalization, our urban societies are confronted with increasing information overload, a strong focus on immediate fulfilment, and full-time productivity and availability demands. In such environments, creative and artistic expressions may be considered ‘irrelevant’ or even ‘useless’ to society.

However, intrinsic values connected to creative and artistic expressions (e.g. being triggered to think ‘outside the box’, being able to consider material from different perspectives) may actually play a critical role in keeping our urban and digital societies healthy, happy, informed and connected. Novel technology will often play a major role here, both as supporting enabler to realize enrichments, but also as a consequence of implementing intrinsic creative values.

Be it as technologists, academics, or artists: it is time for us to have a discussion about this.

We therefore would like to warmly invite you to participate in our workshop, held in conjunction with the ACM Creativity & Cognition conference. In the workshop, we will jointly investigate how intrinsic creative and artistic values, technology and society are critical to one another, and how our present-day urban and digital societies can demonstrably be enriched and advanced by effective connections between these all.

The workshop will include interactive discussions, as well as a hands-on outdoors making session in the Fort Canning Park. As workshop outcome, we wish to initiate joint international statements emphasizing the relevance of our work to the global society.

**************************************************************************
This workshop does not require any formal pre-submissions: all you need to bring are your ideas and creativity.

What does to be arranged formally is a workshop registration: for this, see the official ACM Creativity & Cognition registration information at http://cc.acm.org/2017/registration.php .

Besides, if you plan to attend our workshop, please also notify us directly at cc2017enrichingsocieties [at] gmail [dot] com .

This way, we can get an indication of our audience size, and we can contact you prior to the workshop where necessary.

As we need to have a first indication of our expected audience size in the week of May 15, we would appreciate to learn of your intention to participate (even if tentative) by Saturday, May 20. Thanks a lot!
