Workshop at EuroHaptics 2020
** postponed to September 6, 2020 **
Leiden, Netherlands

CALL FOR PARTICIPATION

This one-day workshop is intended for haptics researchers, social researchers, interaction designers and makers who want to explore and discuss the challenges of designing the social and sensorial aspects of touch.

The workshop will provide opportunities to share ongoing work on social and sensorial aspects of touch. Participants will interact with two new methodologies: ‘Multi-Touch Kit’ an open source touch sensing toolkit, and the ‘Designing Digital Touch Toolkit’, to explore the challenges of designing digital touch (with attention to bodies, environment, agency, norms, materiality and temporality). In groups, participants will interrogate and map these challenges, possible techniques and methods, to inform a draft ‘Manifesto’ for the social and sensory design of digitally mediated touch experiences. A central goal is to inform and support accessible and inclusive design and development that speak to the need of all potential users and future haptic technologies/interfaces.

No prior experience or programming expertise is required, although experience of Arduino and basic electronics would be of help.

Relevant topics include, but are not limited to:
* Tactile sensing
* Haptic feedback
* Gestures
* Interaction design for touch interfaces
* Sensory methods
* Touch perception
* Materials of touch interfaces
* Soft robotics
* Applications of digital touch
* Socially orientated research on touch or digitally mediated touch
* Social implications
* Case studies

SUBMISSION DETAILS

Position papers of max. 4 pages length (including references) in Springer LNCS format should be sent to [log in to unmask] by **30 June 2020**. Papers should outline authors’ research or technical development around social and sensory aspects of designing digital touch, together with key research questions or challenges that arise in their work. Work-in-progress contributions are welcome. Selected contributions might be invited for a journal special issue for publication at a later date.

Questions should be directed to [log in to unmask]

SELECTION CRITERIA

Submissions will be selected according to relevance, diversity of opinions, and probability of creating dynamic discussion. We plan to send out notifications on 10 July 2020.

If accepted, at least one author must register for the workshop at EuroHaptics (http://eurohaptics2020.org/2017/10/11/registration/).
