The award recognises a PhD student from a European University whose thesis is regarded to be an exceptional, innovative contribution to knowledge in the systems area. "Systems" is interpreted broadly, and includes operating systems, distributed systems, real-time systems, transactional and database systems, language runtimes, embedded systems, computer networks, systems aspects of programming, systems security, etc.

We believe that one of the characteristics that makes EuroSys such an exciting community is precisely the inclusive notion of "systems" that it has embraced: to keep it alive, we need our awards to consider the best work across this broad spectrum, and we hope you all can help us make sure that the call reaches every meritorious student (and their advisors!).

Please feel free to forward this to your colleagues and internal mailing lists at your institutions, as appropriate.

You can find more information about the mechanics of the nominating process at:

Best regards,
EuroSys.
