Subject: Participate in an interview on computing competencies & computing education
Dear [Name],
[personal message from individual forwarding the email, if desired]
National research indicates that many computing graduates are not fully prepared for work in industry. You can help to close the gap between by sharing your own experiences and perspectives with a research team at Purdue University, led by Dr. Marisa Exter. If you are willing to participating in a 40–60-minute interview or would like to know more about the study, please contact Dr. Exter at: [log in to unmask].
Why is this important?
Surveys of employers and employees (including Monster.com’s 2021 Global Hiring Outlook survey and the Association of American Colleges & Universities 2021 Report on Employer Views of Higher Education) showed gaps between the skills and dispositions required by employers and those held by new employees, and the Global Hiring Outlook report found that 40% of employers had concerns about finding candidates with desired competencies.
This research study is part of a larger National Science Foundation-funded project, focused on closing the gap between academic preparation and industry needs in the computing field (information about the DEAPening Employer Academia Partnerships project is available at deapcomp.org ). The findings of this study will aid university programs in better preparing students not only their first position, but a full career in this constantly changing field. Findings may also be included in publications and presentations. This study is being conducted under the oversight of the Purdue University Institutional Review Board, IRB protocol # 2021-602.
If you know of anyone else who may be interested in participating, please share this invitation with them.
Sincerely,
Marisa Exter, PhD
