As you are making your plans for SIGCSE 2023 we hope you will consider registering for this free affiliated event taking place on Wednesday, March 15th the day before the Technical Symposium kicks off! Sponsored by the SIGCSE Committee on Computing Education in Liberal Arts Colleges this event will feature a morning session focused on both curricular-level and course-level considerations in liberal arts computing education and an afternoon session focused on the ACM/IEEE/AAAI CS2023 draft model curriculum and a proposed workbook for liberal arts computer science programs to use when working with CS2023 in an identity-focused curriculum design and review process. All attendees must also be registered for the SIGCSE Technical Symposium. Apart from the required SIGCSE TS registration there will be no additional cost to participants for this event.
We anticipate being able to accommodate everyone who expresses interest at the event. However, in the unlikely event that our venue cannot accommodate everyone, attendees will be selected giving first priority to those presenting at one of the sessions and then by reviewing attendance applications to achieve representation from a broad range of institutions. All interested faculty and students are welcome.

Session presenters will host discussion tables for continued in-depth conversation about their curricular work. Additional discussion tables will be hosted on topics such as curriculum design when offering a BA and a BS, how to manage curriculum revision in the face of staff turnover and the need for flexibility, embedding content such as ethics, writing in the discipline, or computing for social good across a curriculum, and others.

The afternoon session will focus on the ACM/IEEE/AAAI CS2023 draft curriculum model. Members of the Committee will lead a workshop based on a liberal-arts focused process they have developed for curriculum review and revision that balances institutional identity with external guidelines for CS curricula. Feedback from this session will inform both the process under development and the Committee’s advocacy efforts with the ACM/IEEE/AAAI curriculum task force.
Workshop Overview and Introduction to Identity-Focused Curriculum Design and Review (1:30 PM - 2:00 PM)
Guided Sessions with “A Workbook for Liberal Arts Computer Science” (2:00 PM - 4:00 PM)
Session participants will be grouped based on experience with curriculum revision, institutional context, and personal interest. Each group will be paired with a session facilitator and will work collaboratively through the first three steps of the process workbook. Participants are encouraged to have a laptop available for this work. Materials will be shared online and participants will be able to take the results of their work back to their home institutions for discussion or continued work.
