Dear team, As near as I can tell, the stated recommendations of the NRC sound just like the way Ada is already used here in the UK. There is no legalistic mandate, but the Ministry of Defence (MoD) prefers Ada for embedded software intensive systems (e.g. our Submarine and Type 23 Frigate command and control systems). This is obviously heavily influenced by a) the technical considerations of software engineering for reliability, maintainability etc, but also b) a desire to leverage the DoD investment in this area. At the moment, we, and therefore quite possibly the MoD, are a little bemused by the current hoo-ha about the NRC report. I'm sorry to say the negative tone is providing a far grimmer message than the facts seem to warrant (from where I sit). I am very pleased to hear Tucker's interpretation of the report that it will "narrow the mandate to focus on warfighting systems, and fix the waiver process". If they do this, the NRC report will do nothing but good from our perspective. Could we hear more about how they will do this! Chris
