Common Ground is the Usability Professionals' Association newsletter.
Their deadline for a special issue on web usability is near, but they
only want *proposals* at this point, not the finished product.

It only took me 30 minutes to write up my proposal. Maybe you have
something to contribute?

Keith

The evolution of the Web has spawned an endless series of challenges
and unknowns for usability specialists and UI designers. How have you
addressed these challenges? In this special issue on "Usability and
the Web," we would like to offer usability specialists and designers
information that will help them to effectively evaluate and build
usability into their web sites. We are interested in

     - case studies, especially those that show iterative design changes
     based on usability feedback

     - methodologies that you have developed or employed and that work well
     with the Web

     - tools for gathering and analyzing web usability data

     - explorations of the relationship between the usability professional
     and the Web

We are especially interested in methodology and case study articles
that focus on the usability of specific aspects of Web design, such as

     - navigation
     - frames
     - security
     - graphics versus text
     - search engines
     - animation

We are also interested in proposals for theoretical articles that
     explore the following issues:

     - how has the Web changed the role of the usability specialist?

     - leveraging the Web as a data collection tool

     - convincing management that Web design should be more than just
     learning Web tools

     - defining a user population in an open forum

     Please
     - limit the length of your proposal to 500-600 words

     - include the major points that you will address in the article
include a short bio and a description of your organization or company

     - provide a title for your article

If you have questions about a possible proposal, please call Marie
Tahir at 619-350-4695 ([log in to unmask]) or JoAnn Hackos at
