Hi, Everyone, April 1998 is the first month of the PAL's operation as a voluntary, unfunded operation. I would like to thank Washington University in Saint Louis for continuing to support the main PAL site and Walnut Creek CDROM for continuing to support the alternate PAL site. Both sites are complete copies of the PAL. Walnut Creek has also expressed a willingness to continue supporting the Ada CDROM production. If this takes place, details will be worked out in the next few months. Production of the Ada CDROM is much more of a time-consuming task than the operation of the PAL itself, and I am also in the process of changing jobs. I will have to clear my continued involvement with the PAL and the Ada CDROM production with my new boss. The PAL email lists are also a time-consuming task, and I plan to shut several (or all) of them down during the next month (May). Final decision on this will be made soon. During April 98, users from 523 organizations accessed the PAL. 31,248 files were transferred by these users. Users from 87 organizations accessed the PAL for the first time. Only 278 files were added or modified in the PAL this month. I am currently holding two manual submissions to the PAL. The amount of time I spent in managing this PAL this month was less than 1 hour. The statistics gathering reported in this message was done using several tools I created for the PAL during the life of the project, and the amount of time required to gather data and then generate this activity report was about 10 minutes.
