Colleagues: What are the best science web sites? I'd like your opinion. Here's why . . . The International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences has asked me to be a nominating judge for the "Webby Awards" (see www.iadas.net) My charge is to nominate web sites in the science category. (They define science web sites as "sites that distribute information related to scientific exploration. These include science exhibits, science museums, scientific organizations, laboratories, and academic institutions.") The organizers encourage judges to get input from colleagues, so I'm asking for your help. What science (and HCI) web sites do you think are top notch? The evaluation criteria include (1) content, (2) structure and navigation, (3) visual design, (4) functionality, and (5) overall experience. Also, IADAS wants judges to focus on web sites accessible to and useful for general folks, not just subject domain experts. I'm not sure I like that directive--especially for science web sites--but that's what they've told me. Of course, I can't nominate anything I've worked on, but I can nominate web sites in HCI and related areas I care about. And I think there's lots of room for interpreting "science" broadly. (Just so you know, the other science judges are a program director for the NSF, a technology writer, and a web designer for NASA). Please send me your suggestions and perhaps a sentence or two of what you find notable. IADAS hasn't given me much time, so I need your input by October 27th. Thanks for your help. --BJ Fogg ``''``''``''``''``''``''``''``''``''``''``''``''``''``''``''``''``''``''`` BJ Fogg, Ph.D. Stanford Persuasive Technology Lab Box 8338 CSLI / Stanford University Stanford, CA 94309 [log in to unmask] ``''``''``''``''``''``''``''``''``''``''``''``''``''``''``''``''``''``''``
